With regard to women’s health, prevention goes a long way to preventing major problems. However, some conditions that occur, such as yeast infections, happen because of changes in a woman’s body that cannot be prevented. It is reported that a doctor will give a diagnosis of a yeast infection to 50% of all women in their lifetime. Symptoms of a yeast infection in women should be assessed by a medical professional for two main reasons. First, you want to find out how severe the yeast infection is. Also, there could be other reasons for the symptoms and a doctor will want to make sure before they diagnosis the condition as a simple yeast infection.

Yeast Infection Causes

Most cases a yeast infection can be cleared up without health risk in otherwise healthy women. But doctors want to be sure that the infection is treated so that the severe symptoms won’t lead to other more serious health problems. In addition, if a patient has a history of recurring yeast infections there may be a problem with the patient’s entire immune system.

For women that have had previous diagnosis of yeast infections the symptoms may be familiar when they occur.

Yet, a yeast infection, also called candidiasis, can manifest in different forms on various areas in the body. The most common of yeast infections is, vaginal candidiasis. The symptoms include a white discharge along with pain, a burning sensation and itching.

Other types of yeast infections include oral thrush, which is mostly seen in infants, but women with yeast infections can get thrush as well. Signs of oral thrush are redness, pain and burning in the mouth. Nappy rash occurs with infants and manifests as a rash in the genital area. Men can also contract yeast infections and can have various symptoms in their genital area. A yeast infection can also be seen in the bed of the fingernails.

Sometimes women who have a diagnosis of a yeast infection will have drowsiness, soreness in the muscles as well as starch and sugar cravings among other symptoms. Again, seeing a doctor will rule out other, more serious medical conditions which may have the same symptoms.

Yeast infections can be treated with prescription medication, although because the medication not only kills off the bad bacteria, it also kills off the good bacteria, more than likely the infection will return. And that is why many patients have found holistic medicine and toxin elimination to be helpful with treating their symptoms of yeast infection in women. Change in lifestyle has also proven to be beneficial in identifying possible reasons for yeast infection.
